Kathmandu: The National Concern and Coordination Committee of the National Assembly recently held a meeting to discuss various issues related to auditing processes, arrears, and the implementation status of the Office of the Auditor General's report.

Committee Chairman Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa highlighted the importance of fiscal discipline in reducing arrears. The meeting with the Office of the Auditor General focused on policy and structural reforms, human resource management, the use of new policies, and effective implementation of technology.

After gathering suggestions, the committee plans to direct the relevant bodies towards implementing reforms to address the growing arrears. Lawmakers identified several reasons for the increase in arrears, including a culture of seeking commissions among government employees, frequent transfers, and the early release of significant amounts of remuneration.

Lawmaker Kumar Dasaudi criticized the government for spending a large portion of the budget at the end of the fiscal year, contributing to the arrears issue.

Lawmakers sought suggestions from the Office of the Auditor General on how the existing legal framework could address the problem of arrears. They emphasized the need for greater accountability of office chiefs in resolving this issue.

Acting Auditor General Ram Maya Kunwar emphasized the importance of initiating reforms at the local level.
